Biographies

Chaden Yafi, Pianist

Yafi earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, College of Fine Arts where she was a recipient of the prestigious Dean’s Award Full Scholarship. She also holds a Master’s in Piano Performance, and a Graduate Performance Diploma, both from the Longy School of Music of Bared College, a Bachelor in Piano performance from the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, and a Bachelor in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Damascus University.

Yafi worked as a collaborative artist at the University of Houston, and previously worked as piano faculty at Tufts University and Brookline School of Music in Boston. She gave several piano masterclasses and lectures in Dartmouth College, Tufts University, Boston University, and Houston High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSVPA). Dr. Yafi worked also as Artist-in-Residence at the Opera House in Damascus, Syria, where she performed many solo and chamber concerts. She also appeared frequently as soloist with the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra. In 2011 she was awarded the Diploma for Outstanding Contribution to the Legacy of Chopin from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Yafi was invited to many prestigious music festivals including a full scholarship to attend the Centre International de Formation Musicale in Nice, France, and the Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival in New Hampshire.

She has published three books: Music in Their Hearts: Introduction to Contemporary Music Education (Arabic), Musical Ramifications: Essays on the Aesthetics of Music. (Arabic), Aesthetic in Graduate Music Schools: Bringing Philosophy to the Learning of Music. (English)

Don Mannino, Master Piano Technician (MPA)

After a traditional 2-year apprenticeship, Don Mannino worked as a piano rebuilder and concert piano technician for international artists. He has trained extensively with Kawai Master Piano Artisans (MPAs) in the US and Japan—and has prepared instruments for the William Kapell International Piano Competition and concert artist across North America. After earning his MPA certification in Japan, he has worked alongside the Japanese MPAs in the creation of Shigeru Kawai pianos
